About
Kirsten Mackie, BA(hons), LSDC
I am a jewellery designer based in Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland. My jewellery is inspired by Art Deco geometric designs and mixes the traditional locket with a modern twist.
I am a recent graduate of Gray's School of Art, The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, where I obtained a BA honours in Three Dimensional Design.
I am also a licentitate member of the Society of Designer Craftsman (SDC).
My work explores the idea of preciousness in jewellery, in particular the notions of value associated with lockets. I am also intrigued by the act of concealment: personal objects or treasured photographs that are contained, the meaning of which is hidden by the owner.
Looking more closely at how lockets open and shut, reveal and enclose, has led me to explore the relationship between interior and exterior surfaces and spaces.
The importance of wearer choice also forms part of my investigation by incorporating various methods of opening, closing and rotating to alter the character and message conveyed by my jewellery.
TRADITIONAL LOCKETS WITH A MODERN TWIST
My Story

My Vision
I aim to make jewellery that is personal and unique to the owner. I want the owner to feel special when they receive their piece of jewellery and every time they wear it, whether it is everyday or only on special occasions.
